The World Health Organization (WHO) has banned the trial of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and the HIV drug lopinavir/ritonavir, used in the treatment of corona, amid the effective treatment of coronavirus and the ongoing discovery of vaccines worldwide, including India. The WHO’s decision comes at a time when the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide is increasing wildly. A total of 212,326 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded globally.

The WHO said in a statement that the organization has shown from its interim test results that the use of hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir in comparison to the standard of care is not effective in the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients nor its use A significant reduction in mortality has been observed from. Apart from this, no shortage has been reported in preventing corona from their use.

WHO says that a separate trial of these drugs has also been stopped with immediate effect. If the WHO is to be believed, this decision will now affect other studies where these three drugs are being used as non-hospitalized or prophylaxis.

Recently the National Institute of Health of the US had stopped all its clinical trials to see the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug used in the treatment of corona patients, after which the organization Trial and use of all three drugs is banned.

The National Institutes of Health was issuing a statement that these drugs are of little benefit to hospitalized coronavirus patients. At the same time, in the UK, a few days ago, the country’s health organization had allowed resuming testing of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of corona patients and said that the test will see that this drug can actually prevent virus infection.

Significantly, the UK’s Drug and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency banned the testing of the drug after research was published in the Lancet last month.

Meanwhile, WHO has recorded a total of 212,326 new cases of coronavirus worldwide in the last 24 hours. The agency further stated that there have been 5,134 deaths from coronavirus worldwide in the previous 24 hours, taking the death toll to 523,011.

Actually, this drug of malaria came in the discussion when US President Donald Trump had said that this drug is effective on Corona patients. But the hopes of hydroxychloroquine in the Lancet have once again shocked people’s expectations after reports of it not being effective on corona-infected patients. Although the Lancet has not given any other information regarding this report.
